The Inspector’s report has been published and, subject to the Main Modifications that were consulted on, he has found the Core Strategy sound. The council will consider adoption of the Core Strategy at the Cabinet meeting on 17 September 2013 and Full Council 25 September 2013. (See press release below)

The full report and letter from the Inspector can be found at:

Bottom line is that the South Berkhamsted Concept is not in the Core Strategy and the Inspector made it clear that none of the sites promoted out side of the Core Strategy were required. This is very good news, but GUI now have 6 weeks to make a legal challenge to the Inspector’s report and of course one of the Main Modifications is that there will be a review in 2016/17. We will obviously monitor the situation.

Dacorum’s Core Strategy agreed by Planning Inspector
Dacorum Borough Council’s twenty year plan to shape development in the area has been agreed by the Planning Inspector.

Following its public examination last autumn, the Council’s Core Strategy has been supported by the independent Planning Inspector.

Andrew Williams, Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Planning and Regeneration, says, “I am delighted we have received the Inspector’s report and that he has found the Core Strategy sound. This means we can now adopt the strategy as our principal planning blueprint for future development in the borough.

“This is the outcome Officers and Members have worked so hard to achieve over a number of years. We have had to make difficult decisions over how we accommodate future growth, particularly regarding the level of new homes. However, it is clear that the Inspector has supported our overall approach to balancing the development needs of the borough against safeguarding its high quality environment”

The Council will be asking local communities about the sites, and public consultation will help to draw up masterplans that shape development.

Council Members will discuss the adoption of the strategy at their meeting on Wednesday 25 September.
